Achievements

Following are some of the achievements resulting from the activities carried out by HIRWA.

  • Ensuring whole of Veena Nagar Phase II and surrounding areas like Swapna Nagari, Model Town, Vasant Garden and Ladhiwala Colony hawker free.

  • Keeping 15 acres of land adjacent to Tansa pipe line encroachment free by fencing the area and converting it into a dense forest.

  • Ensuring the monthly meetings of NGO's with Dy.Municipal Commissioner and other officers of "T" Ward for the purpose of resolving the civic issues of the Ward.

  • Persuading the corporation for widening and concreting of the 90ft road from Model Town end to Nimkar Society.

  • Widening and re-construction for the storm water drain from Aristo to Veena Nagar.

  • Taking the lead in forest land case and carry out the expensive legal battle for last 5 years.

  • Supporting Public Health system by donating Wheel Chairs, Trolley Stretchers other equipment and furnishings to the Municipal Hospital at Mulund.

  • Organised seminar and Workshop for eco-friendly Ganesh Festival.

  • Succeeded in getting MMRDA to prevent chopping of over 200 trees along LBS Marg most of which were over 20 years old.

  • Acting as a catalyst between MMRDA and BMC in ensuring widening of drainage's and other development works along LBS Marg with least impact to plants and ecology.

  • Re-opening of a patch of forest land under possession of a large MNC and making it open for public use after being kept locked for over 10 years.

  • Organized tree planting programs on several occasions in past years.

  • For benefit of residents residing in Swapna Nagari area, getting developers of buildings in the area to construct a flyover bridge over Tansa pipeline connecting LBS Marg and Veena Nagar Phase 2 .

  • Fought with BMC and saved a municipal playground in Veena Nagar Phase 2 area from being converted to a housing colony by filing PIL in High Court.

  • Successfully agitating in 2007 against Load shedding in eastern suburbs and subsequently getting it lifted by making representation to various authorities including Chief Minister.

  • Taking the lead in fighting the Forest Land issue as a petitioner in High Court by filing PIL and taking it to Supreme court.

  • Mobilising public opinion on purposeful spending of public funds by administration and raise the voice against wasteful spending, in appropriate forums.

Getting written undertaking from candidates contesting municipal elections on their commitments, promises to electorate in their constituency.
